MARK RABBIDGE SHORTBOARDS

5’6” - 7’6” RETRO FUN FISH. Twin fin, parallel rails, oversize swallow tail, thick thick thick. A fish that surfs with drive but turns on a pixel. Ridiculously fun. Proven at Kirra and beach breaks alike. Mick Rabbidge rides his snapper to Kirra on a regular basis.

6’6”-7’ THE FATBOY FISH Derived from the outstanding success of the “Fatboy” the FATBOY FISH is a blown up version of the shortboarders fun fish. They suit longboarders who want to cut some serious corners and still have the paddle power in the line up for bigger surfers who have a loose and reactive fast surfboard. Often bought as a second board but very often reported that they get ridden 90% of the time after that first session. A full planshape with swallow tail gives this design plenty to fly over the water in less than perfect conditions. Tri fin set up either all uniform size or smaller trailing fin is most popular. Have made bigger versions up to 7’6” but goes best at 6’8” or 7’ mark. Really popular last summer.

6’ - 6’6” THE MODERN SHORTBOARD. Custom shapes for youth oriented surfing. Range includes the small wave, wide tail fish style (not as extreme as the RETRO model) and everyday boards for all conditions. Rabbidge shortboards have been ridden and praised by many pro surfers over the years, most notably Tom Curren (Tom’s first wave ever at J’Bay has gone down in surfing folklore and was on a Rabbidge shape where he completed his entire, outstanding, repertoire with dry hair). Today’s designs are aimed at speed and manoeuvrability with air assaults and landing a special consideration. No flat bottoms but combinations of concave, roll and bottom flow being the nexus of a great board.

6’6” THE SIX SIX SINGLE FIN. For the purist. Round pintail with channels and single fin. all about flow surfing and style. Beautiful lines and early angling into hollow waves. Not a replacement for the thruster but a nice surprise for the jaded surfer who wants to reconnect with the wave without the bouncing gyrations encouraged by tri-fin surfing. Get one for a cyclone summer of tube riding like MP. Model works great up to 7’6”, beyond that we’re talking regular single fin guns which are a design of their own.

6’7” - 7’2” MINI GUNS. Designs for when the swell begins to pump or surf trips to places with a bit of size. Sleek looking boards for performance surfing on bigger days. Designed for handling speed and forgiving in critical situations. Rabbidge’s work with longer rail lines in longboards has kept him in tune with design theories for longer boards. Bottom curve and roll/vee combinations are vital to get these designs right. Thruster.

7’3” - 8’+ GUNS. For scary waves. These models are for surfers who may need certifying and so the board better not let them down. Don’t want irate mountain men (women?) chasing you. Again Rabbidge’s experience with long rail lines in longboards is vital in perfecting big wave guns. The board needs to be fast but in touch with the wave to readjust in critical positions. Paddling power and entry flow are important links in overall design. Bottom curve and fin set up to eliminate possible cavitation at very high speeds. Tri-fin or single fin tuned to the surfers needs and design.
